Activating the Product Key for Tableau Server

After downloading and installing Tableau Server, you must activate the product key.  There are three steps to activating a product key.  

• Load the key into Tableau Server
• Register the key if needed
• Restart Tableau Server

First you must inform Tableau Server about your new key. You should not need to modify any of your previous keys.

Note: Occasionally when purchasing additional resources for your license, you will need to deactivate the original key.  If you must deactivate a previous key, Tableau will inform you when you are given the new key.

Step 1

Click the Start button.

Step 2

Click All Programs, and click Tableau Server [version], and then click Manage Product Keys.

Step 3

Click the Activate button.

Step 4

Enter the product key including the dash marks.

Step 5

Click the Activate button, and then click the Close button.

After the license key is added, Tableau may require registration.  This will open a window with specific fields to be completed by you after the key is activated.  Please fill out the data as completely as possible.

If the window is closed before you complete registration, you may be required to fill this out prior to running Tableau Server.  If you need to register after the

Click All Programs, and click Tableau Server [version], and then click Manage Product Keys.

Step 3

Complete the form to register your key.

Step 4

Click Close to exit.

To ensure all services used by Tableau Server are aware of the license change, you must restart Tableau Server.

Step 1

Click the Start button.

Step 2

Click All Programs, and click Tableau Server [version], and then click Stop Tableau Server.

Step 3

Click the Start button.

Click All Programs, and click Tableau Server [version], and then click Start Tableau Server.
