Resolving "Error 50030, 71512, 0" or "No License Found" Errors

During activation of Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server, you may see the following error messages:

Function flxActCommonLicSpcPopulateFromTS returned error 50030, 71521, 0
Or
No license found for 'Tableau Desktop'

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions in the order listed below.

Solution 1: Verify the date and time

Verify the date and time on your machine is correct. If the clock on your machine is set to a date earlier than the current date, Tableau Desktop cannot be activated.

Solution 2: Force the license key to be read again (Server only)

Step 1

Sign in to the machine on which Tableau Server is installed, using your full administrative rights.

Step 2

Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and change to the Tableau Server bin directory.

cd C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin

Note: If you installed 32-bit Tableau Server on a 64-bit operating system, the path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin

Step 3

Type the following commands:

  • tabadmin stop
  • lmreread
  • tabadmin start

Step 4

Sign in to Tableau Server.

Solution 3: Verify FLEXnet Licensing Service has started

If the date and time on your machine’s clock is correct, and forcing the reread of the license key for Server did not work, verify the FLEXnet Licensing Service is running. To check the status of the FLEXnet Licensing Service, you must launch the Windows services console.

Step 1

Click the Start button and select All Programs > Accessories > Run.

Step 2

Type services.msc and click OK.

Step 3

Verify that FLEXnet Licensing Service is listed as “Started” in the Status column. If FLEXnet is not listed as “Started”, right-click the name and then select Start.

Note: If the Start option is not available (greyed out), the service may be set to "Disabled". To enable the service, right-click FLEXnet Licensing Service, and select Properties. From the Startup type drop-down list, select Manual. Click the Start button, and then click OK.

 

Solution 4: Repair trusted storage

If the FLEXnet Licensing Service is running, then the license key may be corrupted. In this case, you may need to repair the license key information. Trusted storage is the location where the license information for Tableau is saved.

Step 1

  • Tableau 7.0 and earlier: Download and extract the utility from the Customer Activation Utility article.
  • Tableau 8.0 and later: No download is required; proceed to step 2. The utility comes with Tableau and is located in the bin folder.

Step 2

Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and change the directory to where the activation utility is located. For example, in Tableau Desktop you may type the following:

cd C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <version>\bin

In Tableau Server, you may type the following:

cd C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin

Note: If you installed 32-bit Tableau on a 64-bit operating system, the path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau <version>\bin in Tableau Desktop, and C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin in Tableau Server.

Step 3 (Desktop only)

Type the following command: custactutil -localrepair

Step 4 (If needed)

If the trusted storage repair is not successful, type one of the following commands to create a file called LicResults.txt in the same directory that the utility files were extracted to.

  • For Desktop:custactutil -view > LicResults.txt
  • For Server: serveractutil -view > LicResults.txt

Step 5

Send Tableau Support this file, or a screen shot of the Command Prompt window showing the results of the command.
